Celebrating the spirit of Christmas

To celebrate the festivities of Christmas and New Year, the Mental Health Unit of Manas Foundation organized a Christmas Program in collaboration with Short Stay Home on the 22nd of December, 2011 in the premises of the home.

The program was commenced at 3:30 p.m. with a prayer song by an inmate, Asrita from the home. The song was followed by a dance prepared by some of the clients of Short Stay Home. They danced joyfully to the beats of a song chosen by them and were coordinated in their steps and spirits. This dance was followed by a Christmas folk song by an inmate Sunita from Orissa followed by another dance performance that put everyone in jovial spirits of the season.

A cake was cut at the end of the program by the little children that reside in Short Stay Home and it was followed by snacks and tea. Muffins were distributed to all the inmates by Manas Foundation and the celebrations were continued by dancing. All the inmates of SSH danced in cheerful spirits and expressive steps to the beats of some latest Bollywood numbers.

A lot of effort and preparation went into organizing this program and it was graced by the presence of the District Officer and authorities of other homes in the Nirmal Chhaya Complex. The program had a few hiccups as this was the first attempt of SSH in organizing a program that involved the participation of the inmates, especially those who are regular clients of the MHU. Nonetheless the spirit of the season was enjoyed by all through the dancing, entertainment and the smiles and the enthusiasm of the inmates and participants.

Manas Foundation in collaboration with the Lajpat Nagar management, celebrated Christmas Day with the children of the Home on 23rd December’ 2011. The event saw very interesting, fun and melodies performances by the boys of the home.  Members of the C.W.C, Ford Foundation, Manas Foundation and Nagar management and staff, all graced the occasion with their presence which further motivated our boys to sing more whole heartedly.

The event was a medley of Karaoke performances by the older boys (3 groups) and individual song performances by the younger 2 boys. The build up to the event saw these children practice the songs every day for 2 weeks. An external expert was called 2 days before the performance to help the children give finishing touches to their performance and also motivate them to perform at their best.

The event concluded with distribution of refreshments, prizes and gifts to each child. The celebration lifted the spirits of each child in the home and served as a facilitator for the overall wellbeing of children. It was a Christmas Celebration that all people present would surely remember.
